ORIGINAL ALGARVE PAINTINGS

I paint the Algarve from direct observation, working almost daily with light and shadow.
These paintings explore moments where strong light destabilizes form and reorganizes it through color, edge, and relation. Rather than describing a place, they register how perception shifts under glare, contrast, and reflection.
This body of work is rooted in sustained practice and material engagement, and is gradually moving toward contre-jour painting — working from backlit situations where certainty breaks down and visual decisions must be made through seeing and doing.

Painting is not something you enter when conditions are right.
Painting is the condition.

Light interrupts, erases, presses.
Forms lean, dissolve, reappear.
The canvas is not a window and not a message.
It is a stage.
Everything that enters it must justify its presence through relation — not through meaning. What matters is not what things are, but how they stand, interrupt, and hold space together.

Words come later, if at all.
Painting comes only from painting.

A luz — a short series of bigger paintings, carried by liquid light and warm, glowing colors.

Light is not depicted, but felt — pressing, flowing, shaping the image from within.
