TRACING LIGHT | DIARY OF LISBOA

FIRST WEEK

4 de fevereiro de 2024

Watching Portugal from the sky, such a beautiful country! The green hills, lakes, windy roads, small towns, and almost always, the coastline within sight—all looked so inviting.

Landed in Lisboa. And here I am! For a month as an Artist in Residence at Prisma Estúdio (@prisma.lx).

Exploring the closest surroundings. Rua do Benformoso is bustling all day.

Bought a hairdryer. Photographed shadows on the opposite walls and got fascinated by the color play: carpet-slippers-sleeve of my jumper.

Introduction session at the studio. Enjoying the company of Sammi, an Australian artist who shares the flat with me.

Love the tomato marmalade!

Tuesday, the flea market day. Feira da Ladra is fantastique! Not far from here, went on foot. Discovered beautiful shadows on the walls, amazing street art, and a story of the neighborhood on printed tiles. All so inspiring!

A really sunny day. Feira da Ladra located on Campo Santa Clara—bought a pair of earrings (only!) and had a coffee. Then headed to Museo Nacional do Azulejo. Another highlight. Such a peaceful space. Of course, truly interesting in terms of studying Portuguese tiles. I’m studying spots of sunlight on the floors additionally.

Not far from here, went on feet. Discovered beautiful shadows, painting, even printed a story of a quartier on printed tiles. All so inspiring 🙂

On my way to Sete-Rios bus station. Exciting day! Studying photos of Lisbon from previous trips, all with strong light-shadow contrast.

Sabato.

Painted in the room. Walked in the neighborhood and on the Miradouro de Monte Agudo. A few lines in the sketchbook, in between showers. Sun. Walked back.
