FIO DE LUZ
— Paintings between Sea and Stone
Fio de Luz grew out of my experience of the Algarve — its intense light, the meeting of sea and land, white walls, old stone, water and the constantly shifting atmosphere of the landscape.
The paintings begin with real places and observations, but are not intended as straightforward depictions of them. Instead, I use the visible world as a starting point to explore light, perception, memory and the spaces between representation and abstraction.
The series is an attempt to hold onto something fleeting: a particular quality of light, a sensation, a fragment of a place — something that remains after the place itself has disappeared from view.
